Gloria Martin defends "the PSOE's commitment to consolidate and expand their social policies in Europe at this time of crisis" (31/05/2009)

Note from PSOE:

The PSOE candidate for European elections, Gloria Martin, today defended the commitment of the PSOE Calasparra-"more necessary than ever in times of crisis and uncertainty as we live" - to defend, consolidate and expand the social gains "constitute the backbone of our European social model is one of our identity. "

Gloria Martin said "We want to combat inequalities, closing social gaps, protect the vulnerable, strengthen fundamental rights and public services, because we want a new social Europe stronger, cohesive, sustainable and inclusive."

Candidate for this contrasts with the attitude of the PP you want to use this crisis as an excuse to cut social rights and benefits, "something that the Socialists are going to shake forcefully total because we want to further develop the European social model by we are working and we will continue to defend. "

Martin stressed that Europe is important to achieve a better quality of life, especially the most vulnerable.

"The response to these challenges can not only come from the hands of national governments.

Europe need a strong, united and harmonious. "

60 million euros in Law Unit

Martin recalled that in the past two years, the Zapatero government has invested 60 million euros (10,000 million pesetas) for the implementation of Law Unit in the Region.

This contrasts with the "incomprehensible boycott that is bringing here the Government Valcárcel, where 70 percent of people who have applied to benefit from these rights have not been able to access them.

"The Socialists will not get tired to continue to denounce and demand you get to those people."

To which he added that "the right not think-never-believed in the benefits of the European social model and attempt to do away with social gains such as social protection of the weak and disadvantaged and supportive public services of general interest as health care, "he said.

Policy PP

During the 8-year rule of the PP, pensions barely maintained their purchasing power.

With the PP in the Government, the widow's pension charge was 384 euros per month (in 2004).

With the PSOE, the widow's pension rose to 615 euros per month (in 2008).

During the eight years of his administration, the PP consistently rejected the establishment of paternity leave, proposed by the PSOE.

The PP did not support the "check-baby.

The Socialist candidate stressed the importance of voting in this election "because the Europeans continue to advance progressive strengthening of social policies and benefits to strengthen the welfare state as a priority.

"And the policy to benefit the most is what you always defends the Popular Party."
