The president of the Community of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today inaugurated the new access and parking facilities of the Sanctuary of La Esperanza in Calasparra, a performance including those conducted by the Community for the preparation of this temple, which represent an investment more than 200,000 euros since 2007.
Valcarcel, who also holds the title of steward of Honor of Our Lady of Hope, welcomed the success of the Jubilee Year of Our Lady of Hope, which was commemorated in 2008 and which has led to diffusion of this religious meeting place.
Therefore stressed the importance of all the infrastructure that have been undertaken since 2007 by the regional government to improve the shrine and its surroundings in order to continue receiving thousands of pilgrims every year.
On the occasion of the Jubilee Year of Our Lady of Hope, the Community has invested in the facilities of the Sanctuary over 200,000 euros, for, among other actions, the construction of the new museum, the lift to access the dressing room of the Blessed Virgin general parking for cars, with more than 450 seats, together with those that already had the sanctuary, representing a total of more than 2,000 free parking spaces.
Also, among these actions include construction of a retaining wall at the entrance to some of the buildings to safeguard against possible landslides that may result from the topography of the mountain, ensuring the safety of the area.
The Community also participated in the promotion of the Jubilee Year through the presence of this event in all promotional events in which it participates, as well as the grant of videos and commercials.
The Jubilee Year of Hope has been a major impetus to this shrine which receives an average of 200 visits per day and is the most visited in Spain.
This important religious event held to mark the 285 anniversary of the first shipment procession of the Holy Image of Our Lady of Hope from her sanctuary to the parish church of St. Peter the Apostle and to commemorate the fourth centenary of the first written reference to the existence of the Sanctuary, which has become, over the years, the first Marian Center of the Diocese of Cartagena and one of the top five in Spain.
The Jubilee Year was closed more than a million pilgrims visiting media from all over the world.
