Cerdá presents a comprehensive reorganization of the parishes bordering the river Argos in Calasparra (05/06/2008)

Hall also delivered projects for the general collector of rainwater and expanding the network of drinking water on the right bank of the river Segura

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today, accompanied by the mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, a comprehensive reorganization of the parishes bordering the river Argos in Calasparra, which will connect the small villages of the municipality through a network 15 kilometers of pipes.

This action, with the suppression of discharges, will impact "on environmental restoration of the river in its final stretch," explained the director.

"This is to defend and work for the environment," said Cerda, who also added that the wastewater flows in the hamlets, once treated in the new treatment plant, "will be used to irrigate the area."

He also explained that the works included in this plan, which involves an investment that can reach 6 million upon completion of the project, ensure "quality conditions and health security."

The execution of this comprehensive plan will prevent the discharge of wastewater from small villages in the municipality and will, said the director of Murcia, "conduct such waters to the main sewage treatment plant, where they will be treated."

He also said that this project is similar to what has already been implemented in Caravaca and being made in Cehegín, which will help "improve our environment and quality of life of citizens and spread the good example of water use do in our region. "

The works will be financed from the Cohesion Fund of the European Union, and part of the General Plan for Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment in the Region is in its final stage, and whose line of action is intended to "connect small population centers to treatment plants, to achieve in the short term one hundred percent. "

Currently, over 96 percent of the urban population of the region is already connected to treatment plants, and 99 percent to the sewerage network.

Thus, the Region of Murcia is situated at the head of the treatment and water reuse in Spain, Murcia municipalities to reuse more than 100 hectometres of water per year, which accounts for 25 percent of the water that is reused in Spain.

Collector drains and supply expansion

The owner of Water also presented two other major projects to improve water infrastructure in this municipality, as the works of general collector of rainwater, and expanding the network of drinking water on the right bank of the River Segura.

The first involves implementation of a collector than 2,000 meters long, which will prevent possible flooding in the town of Calasparra (Lt. Forest Avenue area) and represents an investment of 1.5 billion euros.

On the other hand, expanding the network of water supply to the area of road and Esparragal Spot Light, includes a piping length of 5 kilometers and an investment of 430,000 euros.
