The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Adela Martinez-Cache, today visited the Community Irrigation Tajo-Segura de Calasparra-Cieza, applying drip irrigation in the entire irrigable area, reaching 4,500 hectares.
The Community Irrigation, of which 350 villagers are part of the municipalities of Calasparra and Cieza is, according to Martinez-Cache, "an example of efficiency" in water management and its application in crops.
The owner of Agriculture and Water stressed the "comprehensive modernization" performed by farmers to have water, improve quality and apply mainly to fruit crops.
Martinez-Cache stated that the actions undertaken in the modernization of irrigation systems is "example of coordination" between the government and irrigators to make the necessary investments and further the objectives of improving irrigation and use of resources.
He also stressed the "will" of the irrigators to execute the necessary infrastructure, since "requires effort and consensus," according to the minister.
"This community is an example of an excellent water management," said Martinez-Cacho, who stressed that the process of modernization "extends virtually throughout the regional irrigation" and reached 87 percent of the irrigated area.
