Technical and researchers develop IMIDA Calasparra the "I Technical Days Thekla native breed sheep" (19/11/2014)

The Regional Sheep Breeders Association Montesina (ARCOM) with the City of Calasparra and Murciano Research Institute and Agricultural Development and Food (IMID), held in Calasparra, on 20 and 21 November, the 'I Technical Conference Thekla sheep 'of the Region of Murcia, in the framework of the VI Livestock Show' Villa Calasparra '.

The Director General of Livestock and Fisheries, Carmen Teodora Morales, along with the mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, inaugurate morning (at 10:00 am in the House of Culture Calasparra street of Spinners, 2), these conferences that include in their programs a sample of local breeds in danger of extinction in the Region of Murcia.

The Thekla sheep is currently listed as endangered breed.

In the region there is an approximate census of 6000 copies with racial purity, which represents about 56 percent of the existing census in the country, thereby demonstrating its great relevance.

It is a special rustic breed, closely linked to the countryside northwest of Murcia.

Its natural habitat is the mountains, where profit, by grazing, the natural resources of these areas.

This feature, along with its genetic heritage and conservation of this breed, be subject, like other indigenous breeds Murcia, special attention under the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020.

In order to promote and ensure the settlement of the Thekla sheep in our region during these days of the breed will be showcased along with other breeds in danger of existing extinction in Murcia, and attendees will be informed about the new aid to be convened next year.

During the conference presentations on the morphological assessment of sheep Thekla, program improvement and quality parameters of the meat will be taught.

Finally, attendees will taste the montesino lamb and other products from local breeds as Murcia capon.
