Sancho IV re-donated the Villa (10/06/2013)

Calasparra has returned to the Middle Ages during the weekend to commemorate the donation of the town to the Order of St. John by King Sancho IV of Castile un June 9, 1289.

For three days the medieval market, the parade, the theatrical and a packed program of activities of the time the people have become a party.

Last night's spectacular staging of the act of donation by the theater group The Molinico put an end to the event that has been consolidating in recent years.

Acts of Remembrance began last Friday with the opening of the medieval market, after which medieval dinner took place a year organized by the Merchants Association.

The drama of the commemoration was again staged by local theater group The Molinico, precursor of the commemoration.

Previously medieval parade took place with the participation of horses, marching bands, medieval music group The Danserye and over 100 amateur actors parading through the streets of Calasparra to the Auditorium.

A parade which this year highlighted by the participation of delegations of Moors and Christians in Murcia, Archena and Alcaraz, municipalities these two that Calasparra has initiated a twinning record since the thirteenth century belonged to the Knights of Calasparra the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.

Its president, Rafael Garcia Brotons, who was extremely grateful, said the award is for each and every one of the rice farmers who have made the quality and reputation that today has the product worldwide.
