Opened new entrance to the archaeological site "The Pit wraps" (07/05/2013)

The Government delegate in Murcia, Joaquin Bascuñana, with the mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, inaugurated the project works and Start Conservation archaeological value "The Pit wraps" in Calasparra, one of the most important Mediterranean Basin rock art, considered by a Cultural Heritage Act and that is also on the list of UNESCO World Heritage.

A project which has included the new access to the popular traditional Monigotes Cave, which until now could only be reached by river Segura, boat or canoe, or through a staircase of great difficulty.

The new path, made of wood, running parallel to the river, which adds more value to the visit by the stunning views of the River Segura and Almadenes Canyon offers.

A performance that has been perfectly framed in the environment, without breaking with the landscape.

The action involves an investment of 447.00 euros, financed by 75% by the Government of Spain through the Plan 1% Cultural Development Ministry, and the rest by the City of Calasparra.

It began in 2009 and have expanded over time due to the forced breaks that have been made to allow for nesting, since the location is in Protected Natural Area, Jesus Navarro stated.

Consuelo Martinez, director of the excavations, said that they have been made since 2004 and have consisted human settlements that existed in The Pit Coats 8,000 years ago.
