Calasparra City Council approved this week in plenary session a joint motion, on a proposal from the major agricultural organizations in the region, which calls on regional and national governments implement urgent measures to alleviate the damage caused to agriculture by frosts in February.
The Motion requests a special employment plan in order to alleviate unemployment caused by the loss of crops due to frost occurred and the loss of income for families.
Furthermore, the initiative calls for strengthening the provision of the budget allocated to aid urgent need to address the basic needs of families without income and at risk of social exclusion.
A further question to ask the executives cited enact fiscal support measures for farmers affected by frost to ensure continuity of farms and maintenance of existing permanent job.
The mayor José Vélez said on Radio Calasparra that this is a very serious situation for families living from agriculture as estimated losses are around 25,000 tonnes of fruit, equivalent to about 19 million euros.
