The Ministry of the Presidency, through the Directorate General for the Environment and Grid, have collaborated in the restoration and reclamation of 18 hectares of forest land in the Sierra Solana del Molino in Calasparra, natural area that was affected by a major fire in September 2010 which burned about 600 acres.

Reforestation

The project involved the planting of 21,840 trees and shrubs, among which the pine, mastic, rosemary, albaida, juniper, black hawthorn, Kermes oak, oleander, gorse, broom, buckthorn and ephedra.

About the area has installed a plant protector to prevent damage from herbivores such as hares and rabbits.

Amador Lopez said that the initiative has allowed the hiring of a local forestry SMEs and 8 green jobs in the county that has undertaken the work of forest planting the greatest diversity of species adapted to the requirements of the site.

After completing the tasks, there will be environmental education activities and volunteerism, aimed at local people in their environment, education system members and visitors in general, to value the natural heritage of this protected area.

In addition, there will be a practice day with Forestry Training School of Moratalla.

This project represents an investment of 65,000 euros from the company Red Eléctrica through an agreement between the region and the company engaged in the transportation of electricity.

The Ministry of Presidency has developed an extensive program of reforestation and restoration of natural areas in the Region of Murcia, a move that strengthened the participation in UN campaign Environment 'Plant for the Planet'.
