The President of the Segura basin visits the site of the ditch The Esparragal in Calasparra (02/03/2011)

The Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs has allocated 500,000 euros through the Segura basin, a work of improving the canal of the Esparragal, in order to save water.

The works, which have been declared emergency, have been visited by the president of the CHS, Charo Quesada, and the mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro.

The work consists of the sealing of 350 meters from a runway that has a width of 210 cm and variable height with a concrete lining 20 cm thick, consisting of cash and artificial gravel.

The benefit for irrigators will be immediate, as it will avoid losses through seepage and sediment flow.

This action is part of a series of works declared emergency which includes the modernization of 8,200 meters of canals in Vega Alta.

With respect to Calasparra, so far we have undertaken investments in four canals: Ditch Peralejo (495 meters), ditch Rotas (420 meters), ditch Maeso-Mines and Bayo (up to 630 meters) and another project in the Esparragal of 565 meters.

The total budget of four million euros.
