The Ministry of Agriculture and Water notes that it is possible to dispose of rice 'reserve' as is done with wines.

This possibility was highlighted at a conference on 'Quality Calasparra rice', held recently at the headquarters of the Instituto Murciano Research and Agricultural Development and Food (Imide).

Work on 'Breeding rice' were presented by Dr. María Jesús Pascual, coordinator of the research team Imide.

The event was also attended by the manager of the Cooperativa Virgen de la Esperanza in Calas vine, Jose Ruiz, who referred to the three large areas of rice reserve: Rio World Cenajo-Mines and Calasparra, as well as soil and climatic characteristics which may lead to differences in rice yields and quality.

Furthermore, the head of the Department of Rice's Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias (Ivia), Ramon Carreras, presented a historical overview of traditional rice varieties grown in Calasparra.

Among them, the variety Balilla x Sollana, which is the largest area occupied today, and noted that the pump variety, although less productive, is the highest culinary quality result and consistent loose grains when cooked .
