Forest fire in Calasparra (08/09/2010)

The Meteorological Agency of extreme danger level set forest fires in the region for the whole day

Since at 18 pm yesterday afternoon was declared the wildfire in the Sierra de El Molino de Calasparra, the Government Office has coordinated the collaboration and support of state media to the Autonomous Community for its suppression.

This was declared by the government delegate in Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, who this morning has shifted to the affected area accompanied by the Head of Civil Protection, Juan Lorente and staff experts in natural hazards and fire-fighting state administration .

González Tovar reported that the resources provided by the Ministry of the Presidency, Interior, Defence and Environment, Rural and Marine are being decisive from the outset in the work of extinction.

This represents a major effort by the state, because right now several major fires still active (over 500 hectares) in other parts of the Mediterranean area.

From the beginning, members of the Guardia Civil has made efforts to control the area were evacuated this morning to a person responsible for maintaining the dam of La Mulata, and have begun work to investigate the cause of the fire.

Besides this, the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs has sent to the area 8 / 2 and 1 Air Brigade Reinforcement of Forest Fires (BRIF) consisting of 17 troops to support first thing in the morning the firefighting .

Since visibility conditions allow their actions, are intervening in Calasparra: 2 amphibians, 1 bomber helicopter Kamov model with capacity for 4,500 liters based on the Alberquilla (Caravaca), 1 aircraft-based coordination Muchamiel (Alicante) , 2 amphibians from Malaga and 2 helicopters with bambi bucket with a capacity of 1,500 liters and base Esquiladores Prado (Cuenca), assigned to the Brigade Reinforcement of Forest Fires (BRIF).

The intervention of the Traffic Department in preventing and fighting forest fires is made using services provided by helicopters in support work for the purpose of detecting fires as well as messages that help users road through the information panels on the risk of fires in different areas.

Also, the monitoring force the Traffic Civil Guard provide operational support to all traffic management tasks, such as roadblocks, detours or alternative routes caused by the conditions of the road network resulting from the fire.

Last Minute

In the follow-up report issued by the Military Emergency Unit (UME) at 10.21 hours reported that the fire remains stable and is expected to continue efforts to smother all day.

The Meteorological Agency has established a level of extreme danger of forest fires in the region throughout the day (Level 3).
