Calasparra becomes a charming destination during the Christmas holidays.

To the numerous exclusive tourist attractions, which make this town of the Northwest an ideal place to get lost at any time of the year, there is the extensive, varied and endearing program organized by the City Council of Calasparra for the Christmas holidays and the arrival of the new year, and that has been presented by the mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez, the mayor of Culture, Teresa García, and the mayor of Festejos, Antonio Merino.

Until January 7, Calasparra lives Christmas with theater on the street, shows, traditional gastronomy, music, storytelling, cinema and concerts, and any day of these celebrations is good to walk through its streets and feel like a neighbor, wrapped by the hospitality, the hallmark of the inhabitants of the town famous for its rice, and enjoy with the family, couple or friends of the numerous proposals.

In programming there is no lack of music.

The carols characteristic of these festivities are interpreted by various local cultural entities.

Like the Calasparra Choral Association, the Rociero Amanecer Choir, or the own Band of Music Association of Calasparra, that on the afternoon of December 24, the eve of Christmas, it goes through the streets in a cheerful parade where the neighbors of the municipality end up joining .

The town also shows its solidarity during these days.

The launching of solidarity lanterns, on the afternoon of December 24, gathers the calasparreños and visitors in the center of the municipality.

A whole event that is followed by hundreds of people, managing to fill the sky of the municipality with incandescent desires for a better and fairer world.

The proceeds go to Cáritas and Cruz Roja.

Another outstanding solidarity moment is the popular San Silvestre race.

Hundreds of runners of all ages participate every year in the charity event that this edition will also allocate the proceeds to the campaign "Drops for Niger" of Unicef.

The atmosphere is formidable and sports and solidarity together, and a few hours after the end of the year, make this one of the most endearing and peculiar moments of the celebrations.

There is no shortage of costumes, music and animations in an afternoon that is lived with special emotion and fun.

But if there is an event that distinguishes Calasparra is the presence in its streets of Juan Pelotero and the Innocents:

Calasparra becomes a fairytale town.

For three days, the town of Calasparra will dedicate an intense program to the stories on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Innocents, on December 28.

A day that in the locality comes marked by the tradition of Juan Pelotero and the Innocents, who have crossed the streets of the municipality for centuries, spending jokes and "collecting" for the most absurd things, in a very peculiar way.

Three intense days, December 28, 29 and 30, dedicated to this literary genre that appeals to all ages and that will make Calasparra an ideal destination for storytellers from all over the world.

Storytelling sessions for all ages, marathons, III Andante Storytelling Festival, parades, tapas and stories, workshops and the III Juan Pelotero Literary Contest and the Innocents, with the presence of prestigious and renowned national and international participants, will turn the municipality into a Tale people, where you can get carried away by imagination and dreams.

SHOWS FOR ALL AGES

Musicals, concerts, theater, cinema and traditions take place during these days in different cultural spaces of the municipality.

The singer Marina Heredia offers a special Christmas concert on December 29.

The Lyric Gala, on December 30, with Laura Molina, offers lovers of this genre an unforgettable date.

The Saga Productions brings the world of musicals closer to the classic "The Little Mermaid".

And the cinema, with the premiere of the movie "Coco", will unite the family in front of the big screen.

For the little ones the fun is guaranteed and they will not have time to get bored.

The Christmas school, organized by the Department of Youth, is the place where children make everything they imagine a reality: craft workshops, games and cooking, among others, occupy the mornings of holidays.

Popular games on the street, the visit of Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men, with their spectacular parade of music, dance and characters, complete a very lively program that places children at the center of the festive activity.

Nativity scenes with charm

Visit the different nativity scenes installed in the town is worth it.

Of the municipal highlight their artisan pieces of author and their care, meticulous and careful assembly, for which it has already been several times awarded at the regional level.

Next to the municipal one, also stands out the nativity scene of the parish of San Pedro Apóstol and the one installed in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope, which these days receives thousands of visitors.

Traditional and sweet gastronomy in Calasparra

During these days, in Calasparra there is no shortage of traditional sweets and typical dishes.

The bakeries and the own homes still conserve the own culinary traditions and inherited of the past.

Thus, there is no shortage of the traditional toas, mantecados, cordiales, ... that bring an extra of authentic flavor to the meetings and celebrations of Christmas, and for which it is also worth coming to Calasparra.
