The Civil Guard discovers a hog farm with serious deficiencies (07/09/2016)

They have been dealt with more than a dozen complaints about administrative offenses on waste, water, environmental protection and animal health

The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia, in the framework of the operation 'MAB II', aimed at clarifying the alleged unsanitary conditions in a pig farm in Calasparra, denounced the head of the farm for more than a dozen administrative offenses the rules governing waste, water, environmental protection and animal health.

The investigation was initiated thanks to the cooperation of citizens, when the Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard (SEPRONA) received several notices warning on alleged irregularities in a farm of Calasparra, which had generated some discomfort due to strong odors and insalubrity.

The Civil Guard went to the farm to check the status of the facility, which at that time had more than 400 heads of pigs between breeding mothers and piglets destined for human consumption, and presenting a poor state of maintenance, poor health and care of animals.

Inspection of the establishment has pinpointed the scattered in the various precincts of the farm, more than a dozen dead pigs and bones, in various states of decomposition, as well as numerous medicinal products that supposedly were supplied without veterinary control, the head of the holding.

The Civil Guard has found that the owner of the property is the same person who, in 2014, we were proceedings initiated for similar crimes committed in other cattle farm in Calasparra, which were found more than fifty corpses and skeletal remains pigs that had not been managed properly.

Agents have examined the material that covers the proper removal and management of specified risk material (SRM), in view of the health risk arising from bad praxis observed.

Operation 'MAB II' has culminated in the complaint to the owner of the farm for more than a dozen administrative offenses for breach of Royal Decree Law 1/2001, Water, Law 4/2009, Integrated Environmental Protection law 8/2003 of Animal Health, for deficiencies in waste management of the farm, serious deficiencies in facilities and in the rafts purines and the lack of the necessary documentation for this activity.

The authors of such facts may incur serious and very serious offenses, punishable under the law with fines of 3001 euros to 1,200,000 euros.

All the performances have been brought to the attention of the Hon.

Calasparra City Council, the General Directorate of Livestock and Fisheries of Murcia and the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura.
