The City Council of Calasparra joins the events held this 25N International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25/11/2020)

In a year marked by the health situation from the Calasparra City Council, through the Department of Equality, this fight for the elimination of violence against women in all areas continues to be supported.

Therefore, despite the fact that several of the activities scheduled for this week have been affected or modified by the health crisis, the different activities have been transferred and adapted to the digital medium and to be made visible in the streets of the municipality through posters. So that this does not return to be relegated to the private sphere and to continue fighting against this scourge, the Calasparra City Council has carried out a series of activities to continue to make visible and highlight the importance of this 25N.The central act took place this Wednesday morning in the Plaza Emilio Pérez Piñero, with the reading of the manifesto.

On this occasion, only the media have been summoned to the event, to avoid crowds and possible sources of contagion by COVID19.

During the act, the mayor of equality, Cristina Ruiz, remarked that “there are still too many women who still today suffer violence just for the mere fact of being a woman.

Gender-based violence has claimed the lives of 1,074 women in Spain since 2003, the year in which our country began to count women murdered by their partners or ex-partners.

And there are hundreds of thousands who suffer violence every day and are silenced, they and their sons and daughters. This makes the security and freedom of women one of the main problems that this country has.

"During the act, the names of the deadly victims of gender violence in 2020 in Spain were seen, accompanied by beautiful lilac flowers that will be planted on Gran Vía de Calasparra after this day.

A purple traffic sign has also been installed in the square where you can read “STOP to sexist violence”, so that the message lasts beyond 25N.After the act, the mayor of the town, Teresa García, along with the councilors of the government team, Cristina Ruiz, Antonio Merino and Juan José López, have observed a minute of silence for the murdered women, victims of sexist violence.
