He highlighted "the good forecasts for this campaign, in which a harvest is expected to exceed 3 million kilos of rice among all varieties, above the 2.5 million in 2019."Luengo toured the crops accompanied by representatives of the DO, "one of the most representative products of the Region of Murcia and the first rice in the world that had the quality guarantee of the Denomination of Origin", detailing that "this year they have been sown 500 hectares, of which 332 correspond to the Balilla x Sollana variety, 123 to Bomba and 47 to Balilla x Sollana ecological ".The counselor highlighted "the commitment of farmers in the rice sector to the environment, who take advantage of the circulation of water to adapt the crop cycle with a permanent flow, with hardly any water consumption, respecting the rotation of crops with cereals such as wheat or corn and favoring the natural regeneration of the subsoil ".The DO Arroz de Calasparra has an area registered in the Register of plots of the Calasparra Denomination of Origin, it is about 1,000 hectares, of which, due to the rotation with other crops, between 500 and 700 are usually sown annually.
