The works to adapt the fluvial terrace of the Sanctuary of the Hope of Calasparra will begin in the last quarter of the year (26/06/2020)

| The director general of Medio Natural visits the area and explains that the work, budgeted at 278,000 euros, will allow to restore this jetty damaged by successive floods and floods | The Community will begin the adaptation work of the river terrace of the Sanctuary of Hope of Calasparra in the last quarter of the year.

A project that will allow the restoration of this river pier of about 175 m in length, which has been deteriorating due to the successive floods and floods of the Segura river, and will give visitors to the Sanctuary a space for a safer stay and integrated with the Nature Reserve . The director general of Natural Environment, Fulgencio Perona, visited the area today to give details of the performance and specified at what point the works are.

"Yesterday it was published in the contractor's profile to start receiving the offers in open competition for a period of two months, from which time the tender can be carried out." In addition, he explained, "it must be taken into account that you cannot start working until the water imbalances for the irrigation of the rice fields finish." The works, which will have a term of execution of four months and an investment of 278,000 euros co-financed with ERDF funds, contemplate the demolition and removal of the rubble from the old wall; the construction of a breakwater with large stone blocks (3.40 by 1 meter of foundation, the trapezoidal section wall 2.50 meters at the base and 1.5 meters at the crown, and 2.75 meters high) that will go adapting to the terrain, and the creation of various accesses to the river. Likewise, filling and compacting tasks will be carried out on the back of the breakwater with selected material; paving of the terrace based on large format slabs; installation of security fencing, banks, litter bins and signage; as well as planting and landscaping with native trees and shrubs (ash, myrtle and water lilies, among others). It is necessary to highlight the importance of the place where this river pier is located, next to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Esperanza de Calasparra, within the Sotos Nature Reserve and the Ribera de Cańaverosa Forest, Special Conservation Area of ??the Sierras and Vega Alta del Segura , Alhárabe and Moratalla rivers.
