Press release Bullfighting Associations of Calasparrra (11/03/2020)

Given the situation created by the disagreement between the Property of the Plaza de Toros and the Town Hall of our population, the consequence of which, according to the statement made public on March 10, 2020, will be the celebration of our Bullfighting Fair in a portable plaza, the Bullfighting associations of this town, Bullfighting Club of Calasparra, Bullfighting Association El Quite, Bullfighting Association of Practical Amateurs, Association of Runners and Bullfighting Fans and Young Bullfighters of Calasparra, we want to express the following:

1st.

Regret that this situation has occurred not wanted by anyone and whose consequences no one benefits, but they do harm the image of our people and the brilliance of our bullfighting fair.

2nd.

To recognize and thank all those who have worked for many years, from the recovery of the square to the present day, in which we enjoyed the best bullfighting fair in Spain.

We also thank the property of the Plaza for the transfer of it in a disinterested way for the fulfillment of the purposes of these Associations.

We also want to acknowledge the willingness, involvement and help of the City Council in the activities that the Bullfighting Associations have developed, some of which could not have been carried out without this collaboration.

3rd.

One of the objectives that all Bullfighting Associations share is to work to publicize, promote and defend a bullfighting fair that bears the name of our town, Calasparra, and its most emblematic product, rice.

A Fair that belongs to everyone and is what we have worked for, we work and we will work so that we continue to feel proud of it and our people.

It should be remembered everything that fans work for the bullfighting festival to be declared a Site of Cultural Interest in an Extraordinary Plenary Session of the Calasparra City Council (September 3, 2011), where, unanimously by all political groups, the bullfight in our town.

It is important to remember this to keep in mind that bulls must serve in our town as a link of union and not as an element of dispute and controversy.

To that union we appeal to bullfighting associations.

4th.

It has been shown in all fairs that the cost of organizing the bullfights is in deficit if you only count on the box office income, making it necessary for the municipalities to be present so that, with their investment, they are the engine of economic activity that those days It is generated in the locality, having a very important economic impact.

We are convinced that our fair and our running of the bulls are more than just the bullfighting, assuming a very important economic and social phenomenon, as the involvement of the Calasparra City Council has shown in recent years.

Consequently, we want to make it clear that we will continue working so that our Fair does not disappear, EXPRESSING our support for the City Council's position as the most suitable option to guarantee the continuity and improvement of our bullfighting fair.
