The Office of the High Prosecutor of the Region of Murcia has opened proceedings to the City of Calasparra, following a complaint made by the municipal group of Citizens in Calasparra, to clarify the absence of proof of payment amounting to 146,000 euros in the festivities account and Enclosures of the year 2017.

Jesús Alajarín, spokesperson for Citizens in the City of Calasparra, said that he requested the verification of two items of expenses corresponding to the celebrations and confinement accounts for 2017, whose settlement amounted to 400,000 euros, although 300,000 had been budgeted.

"Our goal is to monitor and control the expenses of the City, as we have been doing since the beginning of the legislature."

Alajarín continued explaining that after collating all the documentation provided by the City Council, they checked after studying in detail the 171 notes of the same that were missing to justify 146,000 euros on the 400,000 of the budget items, a figure that exceeds 36% of the total.

"That is, one in three euros is not justified."

In this sense, Alajarín has stressed that "there can be recognized or settled obligations that are not supported by invoices or other documents justifying the performance of the benefit, because it violates the law 9/2017 of public sector contracts and Article 58 of Royal Decree 500/1990.

Therefore, we consider that the socialist mayor José Vélez could have incurred in the alleged crimes of prevarication and misappropriation of public funds, and for this reason we informed the Office of the Prosecutor, which, based on the documentation presented, has opened investigative proceedings. " .
