The adviser added that "the weakening that occurs in forest systems after a fire advises plant protection measures in the short to medium term, against defoliators and borers."

The responsible regional noted that "respected the natural vegetation after the fire, as some small forest patches have been saved from the flames and will be a key factor in the regeneration of the area."

In this regard he added that "we will need to allow some time for the self-regenerating forest."

Between 2012 and 2015, the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity undertake the second phase of the proceedings.

At this stage, silvicultural work carried out in most of the area affected by the fire to encourage the growth of plant species present.

After the fire of 1991

Cerda said the Council also carried out from March last year restoration project of degraded habitat in the vicinity of Site of Community Importance (SCI) and Sierra del Molino Quípar Reservoir, with a budget of 447,500 euros.

The General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity has made clear actions of pruning silvicultural and reforestation of pine and scrub in order to optimize the growth of forests and enhance protection and conservation.

The counselor said about "the natural regeneration of Aleppo pine after the fire was the birth of a large number of seedlings, with values of variable density, reaching up to 10,000 feet per hectare."

However, he added, "there are certain areas that complement the natural regeneration of several native species reforestation, to ensure the proper development of the mass of the shady pine forest in the Sierra del Molino and protect the soil from erosion."

Afforestation has been carried out in a total of 40.8 hectares of reclaimed areas with no, using species such as Aleppo pine, mastic, black hawthorn, Dawn, Kermes oak, juniper and juniper arrears, among others.
