March 15, World Day of Consumer Rights (15/03/2018)

On the World Day of Consumer Rights, the OMIC of Calasparra reminds us of our rights as such and that, although the situation of consumer helplessness has improved, "there is still a very large field to continue working and much to move forward" , said Calasparra Esperanza Marín Radio, responsible for the Municipal Office of Consumer Information.

"Prevention is the best tool," said Marín, referring to always read the fine print and calmly before making any purchase of goods or services.

"We must avoid impulses and buy with common sense and good sense."

Esperanza Marín has also facilitated the memory of the last year, where consultations have increased by 35% compared to 2016, mainly due to the floor clauses of the bank.

Of the total of processed cases, 2,170, 1,950 have been consultations and 220 claims.

By subject, 47% corresponds to banking;

10% to electricity;

8'8% to mobile telephony;

8'7% gas;

8.5% to insurance;

2% to water and the remaining 15% to various issues, such as purchase of appliances, internet, air transport or home purchase, among others.

The local office has also held 12 arbitration boards during the past year.

According to Marín, thanks to the issues that have been processed through the OMIC of Calasparra, 35,840 euros have reverted in the municipality during the past year.

On World Consumer Rights Day 2018, consumer organizations remind us of our responsibility to the environment, hence the importance of giving a second chance to things, repairing them, updating them or reusing them.

In this way we will avoid exhausting natural resources and generating more garbage.
