The energy audit carried out in the municipality of Calasparra by the Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment, through the Institute of Development (Info), has analyzed the behavior and energy consumption of public lighting.

The measures proposed in this audit, which is part of the European project Elena-Fuensanta (European Local Energy Assistance), would mean an economic saving of 130,591 euros in the electricity bill of the City, in addition to reducing CO2 emissions by 270 tonnes, That is equivalent to 150 cars circulating during a whole year

The director of the Info, Javier Celdrán, delivered today this audit to the mayor of Calasparra, Jose Vélez.

"The audits that are being carried out in the municipalities are allowing us to have a very detailed knowledge of the energy performance of the local administrations. In this way, we can propose energy efficiency measures that allow us to get closer to the goals set in the strategy Europe 20-20-20, "said Celdrán.

In the case of the City of Calasparra, the main actions planned include the change of lighting to LED technology, improvement of the lighting of sports courts, improvement and adaptation of existing control panels, implementation of a control system And telemetry, as well as the optimization of the electric bill.

This renewal would require an investment of 799,183 euros and would generate an annual saving of 130,591 euros, which is a 64.3 percent of the electricity bill of the city.

The investment has a return period of just over six years and means the reduction of CO2 emissions by 54.7 percent.

The director of the Info emphasized the importance of the collaboration of the administrations in initiatives like this one.

"Thanks to municipalities like Calasparra that are joining the Elena-Fuensanta project, the Region of Murcia is making great strides in its fight against climate change and reducing pollutant emissions," added Celdrán.

The Region achieves the project objectives set out by Europe

The European project Elena-Fuensanta, articulated through an agreement signed between the Institute of Development and the European Investment Bank (EIB), has already mobilized an investment of more than 17.7 million euros to implement efficiency measures Energy in the 16 municipalities of the Region that have adhered to this initiative.

In this way, the project has already surpassed the goal of mobilizing 15 million euros in investments indicated by Europe and will mean a medium-term saving of more than two million euros, which will also allow the creation of more than 300 jobs in the region.

In particular, all these measures aimed at improving energy efficiency, such as the removal of luminaires and their replacement by low-energy LED lamps, improvements in the insulation of municipal buildings, changes in energy tariffs or improvements in Air-conditioning systems, will also help to stop the emission of a total of 5,541 tonnes of polluting gases per year, which is equivalent to emissions of more than 3,000 cars in circulation for one year.
